Flower Tattoos

Flower tattoos are definitely not rare. They are surely a popular choice among tattoo fanatics. They are typically seen anywhere, but most of time, women are the ones wearing them. However, there are flower tattoos specifically designed for men.

Flowers have long held traditional meanings.  In Shakespeare's play, "Hamlet", Ophelia relates to the meanings of flowers as she gives away rosemary, pansies, fennel, columbines, rue (herb of grace), daisies, and violets.

Rosemary - associated with remembrance normally associated with remembrance of the dead at funerals, but also remembrance between lovers

Pansies - for thought.  The French for thought is pensees; Pensar is "to think" in Spanish ; when we say someone is pensive we mean that the person is thoughtful

Fennel - marital infidelity, cuckoldry

Columbines - flattery- insincerity culminating in dissembling and pretense (or) ingratitude, thanklessness.

Rue - (also "Herb Of Grace") repentance (or) sorrow

Daisies - forsaken love, unhappy love

Violets - faithfulness

This is just an example of the types of meanings that have been given to particular flowers and how a single flower or groupings of flowers can convey different meanings.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of plants, that produce flowers. The purpose of a flower is to pollinate. Therefore, it is the reproductive organ of a plant. That alone can be enough symbolism for flower tattoos. The designs could convey the intimacy inside a person or between two people. It could also be a sign of fertility for women that could mean they are available for courtship.

Flower tattoos with bright colors can mean that the people wearing them have a satisfied predisposition in life. These people most likely are often appreciative of the value. They are typically easygoing people and these vibrant flower tattoos are their way to show the world that they are happy with what they have. They are people who are loved by friends and treasured by their family members.

Flower tattoos can also serve as a memorial to honor a lost loved one. They can represent the life of the beloved while he/she was still living. To deal with grief, some people decide to get tattoos to somehow ease the pain they are feeling. Flower tattoos seem to be popular among grieving individuals.

Sometimes, flower tattoos are the center of larger tattoos. The definition of the flowers in these cases would always vary depending on the meaning of the whole tattoos. Some people will have multiple tattoos clustered in one to represent different meanings and life experiences.

However, in some cases, flower tattoos may not entirely have a meaning because they are only placed as an ornament to decorate or bring attention to a particular body part.
